career:Position Summary: The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery in
the School of Medicine at LSU Health Sciences Center in New
Orleans, Louisiana is seeking a BE/BC (or equivalent) surgeon with
fellowship training in hand surgery for an academic faculty
position at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor;
academic rank will be determined based on qualifications,
experience, and stature in the field. The ideal candidate will
enjoy a busy upper-extremity trauma practice (including elbow)
while developing an elective practice. This is an exciting
opportunity to build a comprehensive hand team with our colleagues
in plastic surgery. Replant call and microsurgical skills will be
expected. This is a clinical and educational focused position, yet
the ideal candidate will also pursue academic and research efforts.
It is expected that the successful candidate will be eligible to
and will sit for the Subspecialty Certificate in Orthopaedic
Surgery of the Hand. Clinical activities will be at University
Medical Center - New Orleans, a level-one trauma center. Incumbent
will develop a comprehensive hand program for UMC and LSUHSC. There
is an opportunity for some pediatric hand if desired.Key
Responsibilities:
- Provide comprehensive care for patients with hand, wrist, and
upper extremity conditions, including trauma, degenerative
diseases, congenital abnormalities, and nerve injuries.
- Perform a variety of surgical procedures, including fracture
fixation, tendon and nerve repairs, arthroscopy, and
microsurgery.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including plastic
surgeons, physical therapists, and occupational therapists, to
deliver integrated patient care.
- Teach and mentor Orthopaedic Surgery residents, and medical
students through clinical instruction, surgical training, and
lectures.
- Participate in academic and research activities, with
opportunities to engage in clinical trials, publish peer-reviewed
articles, and contribute to advancements in hand surgery.
- Contribute to departmental initiatives, including quality
improvement, patient safety, and educational program
development.
- Participate in the on-call rotation, providing emergency hand
and upper extremity surgical coverage.Qualifications:
- MD or equivalent degree from an accredited medical school.
- Board certification or eligibility (or equivalent) in
Orthopaedic Surgery.
- Fellowship training in Orthopaedic Hand surgery.
- Licensed to practice medicine in Louisiana before date of
hire
- Strong clinical expertise in the full spectrum of hand surgery,
including microsurgery and complex reconstructions.
- Commitment to academic medicine, including teaching, research,
and program development.Preferred Qualifications:
- A track record of academic achievement, including peer-reviewed
publications and presentations at national or international
meetings.
- Experience in medical education and mentoring, with interest in
curriculum development or academic leadership roles.
- Interest or experience in clinical research, health outcomes
