Position SummaryThe Manager of Disaster Assistance Programs will
lead a team helping disaster survivors file appeals to FEMA's
Individual Assistance Program. As a subject matter expert, the
Manager will provide internal and external training to key
stakeholders on the FEMA application and appeals process. The
Manager will ensure accurate data collection, manage caseloads,
help their team effectively process appeals, provide training as
requested, assist in building out partnerships and other efforts as
needed.
ResponsibilitiesLeadership and FEMA Support
- Build and manage a team of high performing Associates as they
effectively and efficiently build out a pipeline of disaster
survivors, manage caseloads and complete successful applications
and/or appeals to FEMA's Individual Assistance Program
- Ensure Associates are adhering to the Individual Assistance
Programs guidelines, providing excellent customer service and
meeting weekly and monthly targets
- Create a culture of accountability with clear goals, benchmarks
and processes that celebrates success
- Supervise, provide guidance to, and train Associates
- Monitor and maintain accurate data collection
- Foster relationships of trust, respect and accountability in
working with team members, survivors and external partners (FEMA,
Case Management Groups, other NGOs)
- Build a positive team culture and support team membersTraining
and Technical Knowledge
- Provide accurate and up-to-date technical support about the
FEMA Individual Assistance Program through training to direct
reports and other SBP internal members, disaster survivors and
partner organizations as requested
- Experience with and the ability to utilize Salesforce to
generate and evaluate reports for internal and external purposes
and assess team members' utilization of the systemCommunication and
Media Participation
- Coordinate homeowner stories to support media requests as
assigned by SBP's Communications department
- Capture compelling homeowner stories at time of disaster
assessment and deployment to support SBP's internal and external
sit reps
- Design and execute photo and media content in coordination with
SBP's Communications departmentInteracting with People and Building
Relationships
- Foster relationships of trust, respect and accountability in
working with clients and collaborating with other team members,
NGOs, partners, and volunteers
- Provide guidance and technical support to troubleshoot issues
that ariseOther Responsibilities
- Manage a caseload of survivors, alongside Associates, in
drafting, compiling and submitting appeals to FEMA
- Travel to impacted regions to host trainings and meet with
survivors and local partnerships as neededRequirements:
- Experience with FEMA IA application and appeals processes
- At least 3 years of experience building and leading teams
- Experience with Salesforce preferred
- Flexible mindset and adept at critical thinking and problem
solving
- High degree of integrity and ability to act in a transparent
and consistent manner
- Ability to deploy on short notice to areas affected by disaster
for extended periods of time. Travel is expected up to 25-30% of
time.
- Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple
projects and people effectively and positively
- Clear communication skills
- Track record of working productively with limited supervision
and/or in remote locations
- Willingness to embody the values, mission and vision of SBP in
your communication and interaction with others
- Commitment to continual improvement (of oneself, supervisees
and the program)
- Experience and/or willingness to work effectively
with/supervise volunteers, team members, NGOs with diverse skills
sets and backgrounds
- Clean driving record and ability to drive for SBP needs
- Able to satisfactorily pass a background check in complacence
with SBP's AmeriCorps grant
- Fluency in both English and Spanish a plus
This is a hybrid position. Travel to the New Orleans office 2-3
times per week is required.
Salary range: $62,000 - $67,000 (based on experience)
